Walter Volhardt, cello
ABOUT
Walter-Michael Vollhardt studied with Paul Tortelier in Essen, David Geringas in Hamburg and Leslie Parnas at Boston University (Master of Music degree).
He made his debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and performed with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Brazil, Czech State Philharmonic, Rumanian National Symphony Orchestra, Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra and others.
Recitals brought him to Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Great Britain, Hongary, Italy,Jamaica, Malaysia, Nigeria, Panama, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the USA.
He taught at the Hamburg Conservatory and worked as Principal Cellist of the Freiburg Philharmonic for many years.
With his broad musical experiences he gives masterclasses in Positano (Italy), Los Angeles (USA), Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Porto Alegre, Belem, Fortaleza, Recife, Joao Pessoa (Brasil), San Jose (Costa Rica), Santo Domingo
(Dominican Republic), Havanna (Cuba), Kingston (Jamaica), Panama, Penang (Malaysia), Windhoek (Namibia) and Lagos (Nigeria).
He also loves doing improv performances with percussionists, dancers and actors.
As a conductor he works with many orchestras in Europe, South America, India and Africa.
In 2015 he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the MUSON Symphony Orchestra in Lagos (Nigeria)
